On November 29, 2001, Wayne became entangled in moving machinery at a sawmill. The workers were taking a break; Wayne was one of the last ones to leave, as he always liked to keep the edger clear. His coat was caught in the chains, pulling him into the gear and causing multiple injuries. Wayne was a fun loving guy who helped everybody and loved fishing, darts, hunting and four-wheeling.

In Canada, workplace fatalities claim roughly 1,000 lives every year. Thousands more suffer from serious injuries and illnesses. And every one of those deaths, injuries and illnesses has a devastating effect on family members, friends and co-workers. Through the LifeQuilt, families honoured 100 young workers killed in Canadian workplaces, as well as injured workers, by telling their stories.
