In May 2000, James was a few weeks into his summer job at a co-op, and working alone in the yard. He was unloading the sprayer from the trailer hitched to a truck. No one knows exactly what tripped the gear of the 10-tonne agricultural sprayer that lurched from its trailer to crush James as he tried to unload the machine. In Canada, workplace fatalities claim roughly 1,000 lives every year. Thousands more suffer from serious injuries and illnesses. And every one of those deaths, injuries and illnesses has a devastating effect on family members, friends and co-workers.
